National Training Camp Application Form

The 2023 USADSS National Training Camp is for competitive and artistic swimmers who have Down syndrome.

All camps will emphasize team building, nutrition, dry-land training, sportsmanship, independence, and the mechanics of swimming.

Camps:
1. The Select Competitive Camp is for swimmers who are at least 14 years old and have two or more “A” cut international MQT (Minimum Qualifying Times). The camp will include 2 sessions in the pool each day to work on high level stroke development and endurance. Attendance at the Select Camp is MANDATORY for athletes hoping to be on the USA national team competing at the March 2024 Trisome Games.

2. The Intermediate Competitive Camp is for swimmers who can swim 100 yards, and are proficient in multiple strokes. These campers will receive instruction on mechanics of all 4 strokes, starts and turns. This camp is for athletes who are pursuing a spot on the national team but are not quite there yet, and/or those who use swim training to stay healthy and want to improve their skills.

USADSS RECOMMENDS that campers are at least 13 years old and have 2 “B” Minimum Qualifying Times (MQTs). See chart for times in Short Course Yards. If you feel your swimmer does not meet recommendations, please contact us at Info@usadss.org.

3. The Artistic Camp will focus on the development of elite athletes with Down syndrome in the USA. It will develop and identify the most talented athletes in the nation to be part of the 2024 USA Down Syndrome National Artistic Swimming Team. This is a great opportunity for athletes with Down syndrome who want to develop their artistic swimming talents and gain exposure to new training to reach their full potential and expand upon their skills.

Why: The USADSS National Training Camp is an amazing opportunity for swimmers who have Down syndrome, “T21 Swim Warriors”. The camp is designed to intrinsically motivate swimmers to make swimming and healthy living a priority in their life. Campers will receive expert instruction from experienced USADSS coaches and staff who will also be leading our 2024 national team competing at the Trisome Games in March 2024.

If your swimmer has not had the opportunity to participate in a multi-day international event, the camp is set up to mirror that experience. New campers will improve in the pool, build friendships with fellow campers and learn to trust themselves to operate on deck independently.

Returning campers will feel as if they have come home to their USADSS family. Because USA’s swimmers are so spread out, this camp is pivotal to fielding a cohesive USA National Team. We need this time to work on relay starts, improve strokes, standardize warm ups, and build unity.

Who: All participating campers must have Down syndrome and be registered as a USADSS athlete.
Select Competitive Campers must have 2 “A” cut times in 2023. It is recommended that Intermediate Competitive Campers have 2 “B” cut times.
